Balneario de Mondariz

Very uncomfortable due to being separate buildings, staff unfriendly and somewhat authoritarian, except for the cleaners who would say hello if you ran into them in the hallways, the pool and many of the lounge chairs unusable, old and misshapen, in the mornings everything is messy, the sun umbrellas thrown on the ground in any old way. Is there no manager who sees that and replaces the lounge chairs and restores order? The dining services are nothing to write home about, ordinary, vulgar. The Spa is grand and spectacular due to its origin but not at all comfortable or special. The rooms are large and the bathrooms are ordinary, with old and very dangerous bathtubs, totally inappropriate due to being unsafe, especially for the older clients who stay there and who are the majority. The feeling is one of abandonment and very little care in general. They do not charge by the room, but per person and night. When you book and ask for the price, they tell you per person, which of course has to be multiplied by two. I had never seen that before. A method copied from pirates. To forget and never return.

We took the half-board package + a thermal experience and also added the other one by paying for it separately. They had the nice gesture of including the most expensive one for us and charging us for the cheapest one. Both circuits are very good, but I recommend the water palace because once you enter, you go at your own pace. However, in the Celtic circuit they guide you on what to do at every moment and you do it with the rest of the group, all at once. The good thing about this one is that you don't have to wear a swim cap, but in the other one you do. Both have a sauna and an outdoor hot water pool. The new thing for me about the Celtic circuit was the pressurized water jet, but even so, I would stick with the water palace because it is very complete and for free use. The room is very large and bright, it had very nice views, and there are also bathrobes and flip-flops available, and we didn't have to pay for the swim caps. The food buffet has a lot of variety, very complete. The bad thing is that if you don't have dinner included, there isn't much of an option there, only an Italian restaurant. Therefore, it is better to go to the town that is next door, where there are several bars and restaurants. That way you also get away a bit from the older crowd at the spa. We had no trouble parking nearby; I recommend driving around before paying for the parking lot. All in all, the stay was very quiet and pleasant.
