I was at Gran Rey - great rooftop pool. The food was so-so - just a buffet, unfortunately indoors. They don't open upstairs, for whatever reason. Breakfast is served upstairs and is quite good! There are several restaurants in the area. Unfortunately, the surroundings are not nice. Like at Hempels behind the sofa. Probably disputes among the owners - they expect to make big money, presumably. In any case, I can recommend the hotel. Even the TV worked well. The beach is unfortunately more than a little difficult to get used to. Two-thirds have been destroyed by the last storm. I see no signs that the community wants to change anything there. In Egypt, wooden walkways are built into the sea so that people can swim and snorkel. Here, nothing is done at all. There are thousands of boulders on the beach. You cannot sit or lie down there. Like in Italy, they often only do something if it brings immediate money. Only in front of the restaurants is it possible - there is good food there and around the corner is a discount store. The legendary hotel "Maria" stands in ruins for viewing. Actually the best location (like before) but they do nothing! Also, my planned boat trip to the basalt columns (Los Organos) has fallen through. They were not very interested and not communicative at all. Hiking is okay. I don't think San Sebastian is worth it. If you should go to Playa de Valhermoso, a swim in the great swimming pool is questionable. Completely closed during our stay. Nearby, there is the old banana loading station (I believe). Don't go that way!!!!!!!!!!! It's life-threatening. At any moment, a huge chunk could fall down and then you would be mush. There is a sign that says not to go that way, but that is not enough. The path should be completely blocked off! Have fun. Mario

We visited in April and didn't realise that the 'season' had ended, which we found strange for the Canaries. However, we had a fantastic holiday, the hotel is in a great location, with the sea in the front and mountains at the back, both lovely views. The rooms are spotlessly clean with plentiful hot water and a powerful shower. The rooftop bar is very reasonably priced and very pleasant. The pool is warm, and it's great to be able to see and hear the sea. You can request a kettle from the bar. The sea swimming is not easily accessible but the beach by the port is fine, as is Charco del Conde at high tide. However, La Gomera is not commercialised like some of the islands, and that is its charm, very quiet and laid back. We were here for 2 weeks and hired a car to walk in the National Park. The walks in the National Park are well signposted and easy to follow. Walk 16 was a particular favourite. A map of the walks is available from the tourist information centre near to the petrol station

I stayed at the Hotel Gran Rey from 02.04. to 11.04.2026 and was very satisfied. Since I arrived very late in the evening there was even a snack waiting for me. The reception was very helpful in all matters and the rooms were cleaned daily. There was also a bike storage room where I could put my rented e-bike. My room (with sea view) was spacious, clean and well equipped. A bottle of water was available for free, but the small refrigerator (minibar) was otherwise not filled. A very nice pool area with panoramic views and a bar with excellent service complete the very good overall picture.
