This Parador sits amongst the structure of the castle dominating the small town of Alcañiz. The whole experience is a delight. My welcome was friendly and personal, and I had a lovely (standard) room with tile features and a terracotta floor.
Dinner is served in a characterful large room decorated with tapestries, breakfast in a separate room (good choice of hot and cold food) and there is a bar/cafetaria with some pleasant outdoor seating.
There is plenty of parking, and a five-minute walk down a narrow road takes you to the small but interesting historical centre of Alcañiz.
Note that the tourist office arranges twice-daily guided visits of the old castle rooms, which are otherwise locked to visitors - do a visit if you can, as the buildings have some interesting features.
