Hacienda Castellar

Once found it was a great place to stopover, just south of Madrid. We ended up having a police escort from the village centre to find it, which was great fun. My tip would be to take the road to Chinchon from the village or use cordinates. Lovely modern rooms and bathrooms. The food is basic but good, and views from the restuarant were stunning! Will def use again on this route.

We chose this hotel for an overnight stay on the half way point on our journey south from Santander. Although not that far from civilization, it feels like it is in the middle of nowhere. It does have lovely views over the surrounding countryside - if you cut out the cement works! Difficult to understand why it was built in such a location but perhaps for the activity and sports holidays they offer. There were very few guests staying when we were there so it is extremely peaceful and we had to go looking for someone to get us a drink from the bar. Saying that she was lovely and found me some food at the same time because I had missed lunch and dinner would not be served until 8.30. At that time we chose from a 3 course set menu and enjoyed the food, even if it was fairly basic. Breakfast was also basic, although lots of it - but there is nowhere else to go! Saying that, the whole stay cost less than a restaurant meal elsewhere! Excellent value and the room was large, contemporary and clean, with free wifi and car parking. You do need some Spanish though as nobody spoke a word of English.

Excellent hotel, very remote, perched on a hilltop with far reaching views across the plains. Nice gardens, and ample parking is available. Bedrooms are large, and the hotel lives up to its 4* rating. The restaurant is situated on the first floor, with far reaching views, and excellent food is served. I will return when in the area.
