I rarely write public reviews, but after weeks of being ignored by both the hotel and the booking platform, I feel I have no other option.
I stayed at Photo Zabalburu Hotel and had to check out early because the room was in poor condition and, more seriously, had a window facing an interior courtyard with easy external access. This made me feel genuinely unsafe throughout the night, caused me significant anxiety, and prevented me from sleeping. It was not a minor inconvenience. It was a situation that made staying in the room impossible!
After checking out, I contacted the hotel directly. They acknowledged the issues and agreed in writing to refund the last three nights of my stay, directing me to process it through Hotels.com, the platform I booked through from the UK, and through Expedia, which seems to be the one the hotel uses in Spain.
I then contacted Expedia, provided the full context and the written evidence of the hotel's agreement, and requested that they facilitate the refund. Since then, complete radio silence. No resolution, no follow-up, no acknowledgement. Both the hotel and Expedia have gone quiet, leaving me without the refund they committed to.
This has been a deeply frustrating experience: a poor and unsafe stay, followed by an agreed refund that neither party has honoured, and a booking platform that has proven unable or unwilling to advocate for its customers when it matters most.
I hope this review helps others make an informed decision before booking.

For some reason this hotel decided the best layout was to have the bathroom from the room next door right beside the bed in your room.
This is a poor decision when the walls are paper thin so you can hear every single noise when your next door neighbour uses the toilet!
Absolutely horrible!!

The worst. The smell of tobacco stinks in hallways and rooms. The clientele, anyway, and the carpet and the bathrooms very old and dusted. Next door there are hostels that are much better. My colleagues stayed there and what I would have given to go with them. I found it so out of price for the very low quality that I wanted to talk to the person responsible but, of course, it was not.
