Scandic Umea Syd

Travels a lot for business and private and spends many nights in a hotel. Have had stomach pain around Scandic for a long time and try to avoid this chain as far as possible. On this occasion with the need for close proximity to the nearby dinner meeting and quick departure the following day and easily accessible parking was still chosen this hotel. Disastrous bad and time-consuming check-in! Only one person at reception. First had to wait for a couple to borrow bikes. Then when it came to our turn and we showed identification, as Scandic now requires, another guest came in from nowhere and asked if his room key was ready. Then this favor was prioritized by the receptionist instead of us who had already waited and stood in line. Meant we had to wait another 10 minutes before we got help. Then I asked for identification again that had already been handed over and was right in front of the receptionist. Well we would get our room but judge by surprise as this was not finished. It was almost 6 pm and the room should be available at 4 pm according to the confirmation. At the time we asked to be upgraded but no rooms were available because the hotel was full. The receptionist called internally and wanted some cleaning team to prioritize cleaning of what I perceived as 5 rooms which indicated that more would have to wait for their rooms if they would arrive at nearby times like us. We were told that we would have to wait for 20 minutes and could nothing but wait. Finally got the room at 18:15 so this was right. I expressed dissatisfaction that we did not have access to the room at 4 pm as the confirmation stated and was told that what was valid is from 4 pm. So everyone who will stay at Scandic from now on and assumes that rooms are available and that check-in can take place at 4 pm. Don't be so sure about that! Maybe a new policy at Scandic. In that case, you should get a price reduction or compensation for every minute you do not have access to your pre-booked and pre-paid room! During a quick shower it was found that the floor drain was clogged when the shower water did not drain away. Not so fresh. Maybe the cleaning party missed to check? We had arranged to meet and dine with friends who suffered from our late arrival due to poor arrival preparation by Scandic. Back at the hotel after dinner they tried to turn on the TV to unwind but it was not possible. Had to go down to the receptionist and ask for new batteries for the remote control. May think it should be something that the hotel itself should be able to check and keep track of. The TV started immediately with the new batteries. From what I write, it is quite clear that one is dissatisfied with this particular stay. Colored by similar and other past events, I will at least continue to avoid Scandic which I believe has lost a lot of quality and customer focus for a long time while the price picture increased and in some cases is completely absurd now compared to other better alternatives.

Looking forward to a weekend in Umeå and a hotel stay with my husband but this weekend was not as we hoped. The room was small and cramped with non-existent ventilation, the door was very difficult to open (did not want to read the key card), the shower head was stuck and could not be raised or lowered, the shower overflowed when showering and there was visible moisture damage on the doors. I was going to finish the weekend with a nice dinner at the hotel on Saturday night but after almost 1,5 hours we still hadn't received our food, no one had checked on us and asked for anything so we requested a refund, which we did. Unfortunately, I do not recommend this hotel.

We had a Superior Room, No. 224. Ok size, but not larger than standard. Traditional Scandic decor. View of the backyard, but good if you have your car parked there. Good size free parking. Free wifi. Electric kettle in the room. Pool is available, but we did not test it. Breakfast good, hot/cold. Not ac, but fan and opening window. Not safety. Nice staff everywhere.
