Things to Know: You are in the middle of a beautiful park/woods and this makes the B&B a bit hard to find unless you are assured that yes, access is from a dirt road located at the back end of a parking lot for the park. The payoff is you are in the middle of the park with a sense of complete isolation from everything but nature in all of its beauty ... of course, civilization is in convenient close reach. Your host/owner, Mikael, is not on site most of the time - you will be given a code to the front door and will find your name with room assignment inside as well as the key to your room. This arrangement may not suit everyone, so this is just something to note. When he is present, he is most helpful so be sure to enlist his advice if you wish it. You are in an old house with all of its quirks. All 4 bedrooms are up a narrow, steep staircase (not friendly if you have heavy or large luggage or difficulty with stairs). The size of the rooms vary as does the location of the bathroom. The family room has a separate bed in an alcove that kids will love. The bathroom in the family room is tucked into the sloped roof and means you will not be able to stand straight if you are tall and/or large... it's an adventure and a minor annoyance. The breakfast is perhaps smaller in variety (if you don't count the incredible jams!) than in some of the bigger B&B's/hotels, but the quality is high and the choices still plentiful. With luck you too will have very good tiny Swedish pancakes (try with the cloudberry, dandelion, and/or sea hawthorn jam) and delicious homemade breads. There are no public spaces apart from the great outdoors, which for some may be a drawback. Oddly, the breakfast room was kept locked as it could be a nice place to sit during rainy days. We would have stayed longer had we better appreciated how close the city center is - by tram @ 5 stops (a bit of a walk down and/or up hill on the return - guesstimating 10-15 minutes) and perhaps 15 minute drive by car. For those interested in the large Liseberg Amusement Park, it is also perhaps a 5 minute drive. There is a large ICA-Focus supermarket located in a nearby mall should you want to pick up items for a picnic and explore the many trails at the park. The owner has retired from his profession to focus on living a more sustainably rewarding life for himself, his family, and guests. We commend his efforts and recommend some rest and relaxation at Torpet Mon.

An isolated location the cottage comes as a surprise on arrival. Typical near vertical staircase leading to small rooms. En suite is a bit of a compromise but had a good shower. Breakfast ok large choice.

I was very lucky to spend 6 nights at this lovely bed & breakfast within the Gothenburg country park. It's a short tram ride from the city centre then a 10 minute walk from the tram stop, but if you are reasonably fit this isn't arduous - alternatively it's easy to get a taxi instead. Torpet Mon is a large house tucked away in the peace and quiet of the forest. There are a couple of larger rooms which are suitable for couples and families, but I stayed in the single room. This is ingeniously designed to accommodate a desk & chair, suitcase storage, the double bed and TV which are in a raised 'cubby hole' and also a small bathroom with a shower (which had ample hot water and a good strong jet). The size of the bathroom might present some difficulties if you are a tall or large person, but otherwise it was perfect. There is a separate bigger bathroom which may be available to use. This is a great place for a rest - usually the only noise you could hear is birdsong. If you fancy a walk, you can just step outside to the park, which covers a large area and contains several lakes, signposted hiking and running routes, a really nice cafe, a little beach with swings for children, and even a gym (open to the public for a fee). Alternatively, you can stroll the few kilometres into Gothenburg centre, going past the useful ICA-Focus supermarket (excellent tuna sandwiches!) and Liseberg amusement park on the way. The Scandinavian-style breakfast offered at Torpet Mon is superb - particularly if you're on a budget and want to avoid spending too much on restaurants later in the day when you're out and about! Mickael and Yen (apologies if those spellings aren't quite right) were warm and friendly hosts, and were really helpful in recommending places to visit. I would love to go back!
