Wellenberg

Great location in the heart of Zurich Overall, we had a great stay at Hotel Wellenberg. The standout feature is undoubtedly the location. It's right in the heart of the Old Town, making it incredibly easy to explore Zurich on foot, with restaurants, shops, and attractions all just a short walk away. The room was comfortable, although both the bedroom and bathroom were on the smaller side (Superior Double with King Bed Room). While the hotel is pleasant and well maintained, I wouldn't really describe it as a boutique hotel. It feels more like a standard mid-range hotel without any particularly distinctive features or character that would normally define a boutique property. Breakfast was adequade, and the beautiful outdoor terrace was a highlight. It was a lovely place to enjoy breakfast each morning and added to the overall experience. The main downside was the air conditioning. We stayed during an unusually warm period in June, and the room never cooled down properly. The air conditioning is a portable unit with an exhaust hose vented through the window, and it struggled to keep the room cool. It was also quite noisy, so we couldn't leave it running for long periods or overnight. Because of its central location, the hotel can be a little noisy at times, but that's to be expected when staying in the heart of the Old Town and it certainly didn't detract from our overall experience. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The location more than made up for the few minor shortcomings.

I was disappointed by the Wellington Hotel’s description as a “boutique hotel,” as it lacked the distinctive design, personalized service, and unique atmosphere I typically expect from a boutique property. The hotel also advertised air conditioning, but it was only a portable unit with a hose to the window that provided limited cooling and made clicking and popping noises throughout the night. Overall, I found the boutique branding misleading and felt the accommodations did not meet the expectations set by the hotel’s description. The service at the front desk was disappointing. The young blonde headed woman working at reception came across as unfriendly and lacked the level of hospitality and professionalism I would expect. Rather than feeling welcomed as a guest, several interactions felt abrupt and dismissive, which negatively affected the overall experience.

The Wellenberg Hotel was excellent. The location in the old town was fantastic with good restaurants easily accessible and easy access to the train station. Lovely Ruth, at breakfast, greeted everyone with a smile and the choice was certainly enough. We felt in the heart of it all and luckily we were there for the festival celebrating the beginning of Spring/Summer. Our 4 nights were great in every way.
