Hotel Steinbock

Outstanding clean spacious rooms, Very quiet despite the street side, everything looks newly renovated. Bathroom of the finest quality, fresh towels every day. Typical Italian breakfast, very rich and something for every taste. Super service, very friendly staff.

We had a very positive stay at Hotel Steinbock. The location is really convenient, right in the centre of Grindelwald and within easy walking distance of everything. The hotel itself is quite small, but very well kept. Our room in particular looked as if it had been renovated quite recently and, considering the category of the hotel, everything was really in excellent condition. The only small thing I missed in the room was a mini fridge. It would have been useful, especially in summer, although of course this is a three-star hotel and it is certainly not something you can expect as standard. Having parking available at the hotel is also a big plus in Grindelwald, and all the staff we met were extremely friendly and helpful. We also tried the Italian restaurant several times. Being Italian, I am normally rather critical about Italian food abroad, but I have to say that the food here was good. The pizza is definitely decent, especially considering you are in Switzerland, and the other dishes we tried were also enjoyable. Even if you are not staying at the hotel, the restaurant is worth considering if you feel like having a pizza or some Italian food. Breakfast was perfectly adequate for a three-star hotel, with everything we needed. The only real negative point was the flies, particularly in the breakfast room. There are small fans on the tables intended to keep them away, but there were still a lot of them. To be fair to the hotel, however, we noticed exactly the same problem in many other restaurants and public places around Grindelwald, so this seems to be more of a general local issue than something specific to the Steinbock. Overall, a very good experience: comfortable, friendly, well located and good value for its category. I would happily stay here again.
