Hotel Alpina

stayed here for 4 nights during an international conference at Davos Kongresszentrum. the hotel located up on a hill side but relatively adjacent to the congress center. for those of you who doesn't like walking up on a hill, probably this hotel won't suit you. the hotel is rather old but to my surprise, the room definitely has some refurbishment especially the bathroom, it has the same facility as most of the newer built hotels. this is a family-owned hotel and they have been doing a very good job on maintaining this old building. my favorite part of this hotel is the restaurant where you can have the view of the lawn and hills surrounding the hotel. for every overnight stay in any hotel in Davos, you are entitle for a Davos guest card, which can be used to travel around the city for free, including trains to the mountains during the summer season.

We stayed at the hotel Alpina to attend a conference. it was very well positioned and close to the conference Centre. We stayed in room 222 which was a very sunny room with beautiful bay windows. The hotel however , especially the dining room need a revamp. Breakfast was very ordinary and if you arrived a bit late there wasn't much choice. it seems they would put out cold meats etc. and if it is finished it is finished. if you are thinking of skiing then make sure to leave your ski's at the gondola's lock up facilities since facilities to store ski's are limited. it is also a long way to the Jacobs Horn gondola. Service was efficient but formal not much conversation.

An "enforced" stay here when we had car troubles on our trip and what a find. Konrad and his wife could not have been more welcoming and went out of their way to help us with advice on garages and onward routes to our final destination. We had a lovely warm comfortable room with a balcony and stunning views and a delicious extensive breakfast the next morning. Winter or summer I would recommend a stay here and we will certainly be coming back for an extended visit. This was personal service at it's very best.
