Gastehaus Casa Franco

Beautiful, newly renovated rooms with parquet floors, carefully and lovingly furnished. Good WiFi. Lots of storage space. Mirrored cabinet in the bathroom (rarely found these days; super practical). An ideal hostel for people who appreciate simplicity and peace.

I am visiting St Moritz on business and I normally visit this place 2 times a year. This time I couldn't book my favorite hotel in time, for this reason I had to stay at Hostal Casa Franco, which is part of the same Sonne chain. This morning I went to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant and when I was about to leave, it seemed very strange to me that the girl at the reception asked me again for my identification, so I kindly agreed but I began to notice something strange because they were taking too long. They were really stalling because they called the police and were naming me as a suspect in a robbery that took place in the city 3 days ago, which is why I wasn't even in Switzerland. The police took me to check my documents and take my fingerprints as if I had been the thief. The hotel manager was very racist with me and I felt super offended by the way they acted. Later I met the hotel manager at a polo event I attended and she approached me to apologize to which I replied that I was very angry at the way they treated me and that I expected at least compensation for the terrible time they put me through. . Good thing it's my last night in this unpleasant place. Do not stay at Hotel Sonne and Casa Franco. Also the breakfast is horrible!!

Casa Franco has the appearance of 60/70s Appartement Block. We stayed on the top floor in a 5-bed family room. The 2 on 3rd floor bathrooms are shared. Bedroom and bathrooms were cleaned and made up daily. The hostel is around the corner from Hotel Sonne, the reception and breakfast restaurant, if you booked it. The breakfast is tasty and worth the money. The hostel is very strict on and water heating equipment. We asked for a kettle, but were told that it is not allowed due to fire regulations. I’ve added a star for the St Moritz pass -allowing use of local buses and lifts - and free entry to the Ovarvarvo public spa pools, which are DEFINITELY worth a visit. It shows what a decent public pool can look like if local government makes the investment. And whilst there, make use of the nearby pool restaurant (also accessible from the outside), where food is more reasonable and the decor and environment is way above average. We saved about 30-40% on dinner there, with drinks included.
