When I booked this hotel, I had high hopes given the rave reviews here and on booking.com, but after my negative experience with a fully refundable booking cancellation (which is actually not yet resolved), I cannot recommend this hotel. After booking my room, I sent an email to the host with several questions about the hotel and Locarno. I received no response and sent the same message again. After several days, I finally decided to call, which for me was an international call, and I finally got someone on the phone. They apologized and told me they were having email and web site problems, and for a short time I had a few email exchanges. We had to make a couple of changes to our booking dates, and when I sent an email on that subject, I had the same exact experience as with my initial contact, ie, no response despite several attempts. At this point there were red flags waving in my face, but I assumed the host's email was still problematic. After another round of stop-and-go emails, I decided to throw in the towel and cancel the entire reservation, which was still a month away. That notice was over a week ago, and since then, I have not received a single email. I had to make three more phone calls before I finally got an answer acknowledging receipt of my cancellation notice, and even after that, there has been radio silence. Bottom line-caveat emptor, especially if you hope to get any response of any kind from the host. There are numerous fine hotels and B&Bs in Locarno, and my advice would be to look elsewhere.

We really enjoyed our stay with Barbara and Urs Schmid: - the uncomplicated Booking Referral with all information - the personal and friendly welcome and explanations about the apartment, the city, the possibilities (restaurants, shopping, etc.) - the very stylish, loving, high-quality and individual furnishings of the apartment and the lounge area on the balcony and courtyard, a very special charm and a southern atmosphere that alone creates a great holiday feeling. - the central location of the apartment, from which everything essential is within walking distance.

Apartment no. 18 on the top floor is accessible via a few stairs and faces the beautiful, quiet courtyard. It is very comfortably furnished, the kitchen-living room and bathroom are well equipped. All rooms are practically new and very clean. Very good mattresses, pleasantly soft pillows, perfect reading lamps and enough storage space surprise you in the tasteful bedroom. In front of the apartment there is a veranda with a view of the beautiful courtyard with palm trees and flowering plants. Barbara and Urs are very friendly hosts and are happy to help with good recommendations for a perfect stay.
