We had a lovely visit to Alpenlodge to celebrate a big birthday. The staff were very welcoming and I got a free upgrade because it was my birthday which was a lovely touch. The breakfasts are excellent and the views of Matterhorn are wonderful- although you do have to climb up the hill to achieve them! We could hear the goat bells on the opposite hillside and the birdsong as it is a traffic-free zone. Highly recommended.

The Alpenlodge is such a great find! Deborah, Martin, Ellie and the entire staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. They provided us with detailed recommendations and went over and beyond despite the Christmas holiday. The spa (sauna, steam room, & relaxation area, view from the hotel, affordable same-day laundry service, included breakfast and afternoon tea & cakes were cherries on top of an already wonderful experience. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. The location is great, especially if you want to have an incredible view and be proximal to the main train station. If you're looking to go up to Glacier Paradise and/or ski the Italian side, the walk is about 20-30 minutes with a gentle hill upon return. There are other options - including bus and taxi - in getting to the furi/funi/gondola and heart of Zermatt's town.

We enjoyed a beautiful Junior Suite with a chandelier and the most amazing view of The Matterhorn. An amazing place to enjoy my birthday. The staff were excellent and easy to communicate with. Breakfast was very nice and the coffee exceptional. We would definitely return. I must add, it is a little distance from the station and town and uphill. We enjoyed the walk, but you can get a taxi which you can buy vouchers for 20 CHF. Taxi to and from the station was provided as we stayed 2 nights.
