Hotel du Grand Lac Excelsior

Always a pleasant experience. The hotel staff will do anything to satisfy you. The building is old, but that has just the charm that suits Montreux perfectly. Enjoy the amazing view from your terrace. The rooms are spacious and equipped with air conditioning and shutter, which makes your room perfectly darkened. Breakfast is tasty and at the table they bring the coffee specialties you desire. Breakfast overlooking the lake and the beautiful promenade, what more could you want. There is a lovely large indoor pool and a well-equipped gym. This hotel is highly recommended, the views , the spacious rooms and the staff make the difference

I stayed at the Hôtel du Grand Lac Excelsior this summer from June 23rd to 26th with two family members. This year's stay was particularly special for all of us, marking, in a way, the 40th anniversary of our visit to this magnificent hotel. As a child, I first stayed at the Hôtel du Grand Lac Excelsior in the summer of 1986, and since then, we have spent several days at this exceptionally charming hotel almost every year. In my opinion, the Hôtel du Grand Lac Excelsior in Montreux is one of the best hotels in the world, and we are already looking forward to our 41st stay there. I spent 4 nights at this beautiful hotel which has all the charm that you would expect of a hotel of its vintage. I had read reviews before coming ,and many mentioned the fact that furnishings were outdated and the hotel not maintained to the best standards. But, in my opinion, these are part of the charm of the place and a reminder of it's grand past life ! It's like a little trip back through time to another era. My room was huge with high ceilings ,fitted carpet and large, comfortable bed.Lovely balcony with amazing view of the lake and mountains. The carpeting everywhere means the hotel is wonderfully quiet.Also, my room had a door between the bedroom and the main door - another great noise reducer! The bathroom was large and,although there was no bath, the rest was just as it should have been. The pool is great, bigger than most indoor hotel pools I have seen, so great for having a proper swim. If you wish,you can step out from the pool area into the lovely garden and lie on a sun lounger. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Once ,the restaurant manager was leaving to go home but when he noticed I was waiting for service ( I hadn't realised the bar closed in the afternoon) so he went back and served me a coffee.This was typical of my experience at this hotel.Everyone I encountered was cheerful and made me feel at home. I would happily stay again .
