It's the worst. I paid sequentially for two days, 7/31 and 8/1, through Yanolja (connected to Tripvisor) and arrived early in the morning. No matter how much I called the reservation number and showed the confirmation, the male employee who spoke a little English through the phone did not confirm it. It keeps repeating that I have to pay, but I really don't know where the problem is, but I have the date number on the reservation confirmation. Does that make sense? The accommodation was full of small bugs and I sighed when I saw the room with foreign hair on the floor. I saw that English was available 24 hours a day, but it wasn't effective at all. There wasn't a single advantage other than the location.

My flight home was late in the evening, so I needed a no-frills dayroom close to the airport MRT. A few days before my trip back home, I went to the Queen hotel to see what they could offer. The receptionist was friendly and smiling, but didn’t speak much English. That was not a problem, though – she quickly called someone who was able to translate. My 8-hour booking from 11 am to 7 pm cost 1400 TWD, cash only, paid on arrival. (A full night from 3 pm to 11 am would have been 1800 TWD.) The same receptionist was working when I checked in, and was happy to have me see the room before paying. The room was on the third floor. As there is no lift, be prepared to carry your bags up and down the narrow staircase. The Ikea-furnished room was a nice surprise. While the hotel officially has just one star, rooms of this quality would easily be marketed as three-star accommodations in Europe. The room was of decent size and impeccably clean. It had a window overlooking the street, which made it a bit noisy. Note that some rooms have no windows at all. The bed was a bit on the hard side, but the sheets were clean. There was a tv, a desk and a closet as well as a lot of amenities: two 0.6 water bottles, a fridge, slippers and, yes, three condoms neatly placed on the desk. I suppose it tells something about the clientele here, but during my day visit, it was all very decent. The A/C kept the room at a comfortable temperature, yet was centrally regulated so no possibility to turn it on or off or adjust the temperature. The bathroom was clean and came with a walk-in shower with decent water pressure and ample hot water. The amenities included single-use hand soap, shampoo, a comb, a toothbrush and toothpaste. Impressive. Wifi was easy to use, just make sure to take note of the password that is posted on the wall at reception. However, the connection was slow and while it was strong enough for my laptop, on my mobile phone it only worked occasionally. The hotel is in the busy Datong district, with lots of local activity right outside the door. There is a fruit vendor right next to the hotel as well as a 7Eleven convenience store. The airport train is less than ten minutes away on foot. Reading the reviews here, I expected it to be a lot worse than it really was. A good choice if you need simple but clean accommodations at an affordable price.
