Phranakorn Grand View Hotel

We were just using this hotel for the night as a stop over before another flight the following morning. The hotel was close to the airport which was convenient however taxi drivers did not seem to know where it is and had to stop for directions. The staff are very friendly but only one or two speak adequate English which makes it difficult if you need advice on where to go or what to do. The service was good but when we got to the room, it was pretty dirty. Parts of the wallpaper were coming off and the shower was definitely not up to standard with a lot of mold and grime showing on the walls and floor. Also, the shower produced very little pressure. They organized taxis for us very easily though. All in all, great location for one night stop over, good service, limited English, dirty rooms but cheap so I guess you get what you pay for.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the room was the stench: Mold? Wet rag? Armpit? Whatever it was I couldn't peel the smell away. And then the bugs. There are medium sized bugs that I've never seen before and most likely native to SE Asia. They are yellow in color with wings and move very fast. I killed two within my first 10 minutes of checking in. The wifi is spotty and I couldn't get a strong connection. The hotel is actually the Phranakorn University and my taxi driver had a hard time locating the place. You have to drive past the gates and security check point will direct you to the building. 'Phranakorn Grand View' is in very small cursive letters to the right side of the building. I only booked a night here as a last resort on my layover to Siem Reap and it's proximity to the airport. You get what you pay for. The staff is friendly but so not speak great English so communication was hard. If you're not use to this kind of environment (as I clearly am not) then do not consider this an option. It is not unbearable, but certainly not relaxing as I was only thinking about the jumping bugs as I slept. There was also very loud pumping music until 3am, unsure if it was a nearby club or bar. I will never stay here again.

£22 a night for two with breakfast buffet included, air con, free wifi, satellite tv and friendly staff! This hotel was a great find, it is in the grounds of the university with a 7/11 next to the hotel. The rooms are clean and big. There is a fitness centre next door that costs 60 badht a time - there are weights and a good range of cardio equipment. There is a shopping centre down the road and a few restaurants on the road outside the university. The hotel is about 15 minutes from don muang and the hotel will sort a taxi for you when you are ready. It will cost no more that a 100 badht. I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone stopping over!
