I must say that my last trip to Thailand was the most enjoyable and I have to give credit to that in large part to the service and hospitality that I received from the staff at Sunshine Vista Hotel. I have to admit my 10 day stay started out with a problem. A huge problem entirely of my own making. After a grueling 15 hour flight and a two hour taxi ride, I arrived at the hotel absolutely exhausted and seeking only a shower and a soft bed. I was greeted warmly at reception but there was a problem, a major problem; the hotel had no record of my 10 day reservation. Somehow my reservation from Agoda had not been received. I showed the reservation desk my order with Agoda. I had taken a screenshot of it. “Yes sir, that is the order , but where is your confirmation number - the person at the front desk politely asked me ? I looked through my phone. Nothing. No confirmation from Agoda. But I knew I made the reservation. I had given Agoda my American Express number. “Im sorry sir , we will need a confirmation number, perhaps you can contact Agoda and tell them your situation, the front desk suggested. Okay, good idea, I thought. I sat down in one of the lobby chairs and took out my phone. I had to get this done. But , I was so tired. That 15 hour plane ride and the 2 hour taxi trip , not to mention the heat and the excitement of travel had taken a lot out of my 71 year old body. I was so tired. I searched through my correspondence with Agoda looking for a local contact number? Nothing? How do you contact them if you have a problem ? Okay , found a number. I call it. Oh no. I don’t have a local SIM card. My phone is not working. I have been sitting in this chair for almost an hour, frantically searching for a local number, and now I have it, but my phone won’t work. Now I am beaten. I am holding my head in my hands. I am so tired and I don’t know what to do. Then, I hear a voice. A woman’s voice. “ Excuse me sir, I work at the front desk. I overheard about the problem you are having with your Agoda reservation and I thought that perhaps I could help. My name is Benz. “ I thanked her politely and told her that I can’t even call Agoda because I don’t even have a phone that works. “ That’s okay sir, we can use my personal phone “ , she said. “ Look sir, it’s obvious that you are exhausted from your travel. Why don’t you relax and get some food and something cold to drink and let me work on this problem for you. I am good with things like this. Trust me okay ? You go relax. “ That’s when I really saw her for the first time. She was tall, beautiful and confident. I smiled at her. She smiled back. Thank you Benz I was just about to give up hope on this, I said. “ “ You go relax sir. Give me some time to solve this problem okay ? “ Okay , thank you Benz I said. Two hours later I returned totally prepared for the bad news. I walked toward the front desk when a voice calling my name stopped me, I turned , it was Benz. “ Sir, I have your room key. Your luggage is already up in your room. We will take care of the other details after you get some rest okay ? I looked at her and said I messed up, I never got the confirmation number. It was my fault. How did you fix it with Agoda ? She smiled at me again and said “ when things are going bad - sometimes you just got to believe. I’m just happy that I could help you. “ Sometimes you meet the most remarkable people on your journeys. Benz was definitely that.

I was very impressed with the service from the reception staff. We checked in around 1 PM, understanding that the hotel's policy was 3 PM. The staff asked us to wait for our room, but we had our children with us, and they were getting fussy from the long drive. We were very tired at that time and didn't want to drive outside again. After a short while, less than half an hour later, the reception staff brought us the key cards and an upgraded room, which we were very impressed with because we were so tired we just wanted to collapse onto the bed.
