Suansaiyok Resort

The place is very nice, good view of the river and historical bridge near a cliff by the river. Room and landscape are well maintained. There are adventure park inside but probably not included in the room rate. Food and service is average. Could be better. Better have dinner somewhere else. Raft room by the river don’t have bathroom. A bit of a hassle during the night.

This is a great location. We had a triangular shaped cabin near the river and only 50 meters from death railway. Great. The cabin was ok, but the air in the jungle is moist and a wet t shirt from day 1 was not dried when we left 2 days after. The breakfast was good and the dinner was great one day and not so great the other day. The riverside location is awesome, me might come back this way, but will consider a normal room over the cabin next time

My girlfriend and I stayed for one night in July 2017 and I did not enjoy the experience. First impressions were positive as a smiling lady met us as we were parking our car, took our bag and showed us to reception. A nice fruit drink, quick formalities and three staff took us and our bags down to our room (many many flights of steps down the riverside lawn level). Our room was one half of a triangular cottage with a swing outside and appeared very cut from outside. We opened the front door (about 5 1/2 feet high) and were presented with a bed about 10 feet wide which filled the room from wall to wall. Approx 2 square metres of floor space and a small TV / fridge unit. One window about 10 feet above the floor and a fair few mosquitoes. A tiny bathroom with zero bench or shelf space to place any toiletries, a shower head less than 5 feet from the ground and a rail but no shower curtain so the bathroom floor was always wet. We went for a walk. Lots of adventure options which seemed to be aimed at corporate team building events, and the Thai / Burma railway which runs right past the resort. When we checked in the receptionist mentioned the train runs down to a cave 400 metres away. This made no sense (surely most people can walk that far) until we realised that pretty much the whole of that 400 metres is over an elevated bridge with no handrails and a drop of up to 10 metres on either side. We started walking and I quickly asked the question "Egan happens if a train comes ?". We went back, started walking the path under the train track, but after a few minutes came back. Sure enough 10 minutes later a train did come along - we would have been maybe half way along with no means of escape - terrifying. We ventured to the only restaurant for dinner - nice river front setting under cover and watched the sun set. The staff pointed a fan at us to keep the missiles away but would not lend us any repellent. We ordered our first 3 dishes and they were pretty much inedible. Then another 3 dishes - if anything worse and finally I ordered an omelet and I just about managed to finish half of it. Dessert was ice cream so I picked 3 single serve tubs of a home made variety, had a couple of scoops of each and gave up. Finally I managed to find 2 Magnums in another freezer and they were great ! Back to our room, tried to get the TV working - eventually figured out the batteries in one of the remotes were dead - and after 20 minutes of stuffing around discovered all the channels were in Thai only. We were hungry after the dinner so went in search of snacks. We found one (top of the hill off the car park) and we interrupted a Thai family having dinner - it felt like someone's home with a few shelves of goods in the corner of the living room. And so to bed. The bed was large, plenty of pillows but had a thin hard mattress and the aircon in the room cut in & out so loudly you almost jumped each time. After a fitful sleep culminating in construction noise starting at 7am (hammering, power tools and arc welding with nothing to stop guests seriously damaging their eyesight I limboed through the 5 foot door to our bathroom, narrowly avoided slipping on the wet floor and did my morning contortions to fit under the midget shower. Breakfast was the highlight: coffee, juice, water, bacon & eggs and a tasty & filling rice, pork and ginger soup. Lovely views down the river with the Thai / Burma Railway on one side snaking down the valley and a cool breeze. A nice way to end our stay.
