Kata Hi View Resort

There are positives and negatives to staying at Kata Hi view bungalows. It’s location is great for the beach, but don’t be fooled by some of the clever photos that make it look like the bungalows are actually on the beach. There is a road separating you from the beach and what may look like sand in the photos to some, is actually roof tops of other bungalows. The biggest positive is, as the name suggests, the view. However, the view comes at a price, namely the huge number of steps, but if you are fit and heathly it’s a great place to stay given the cost. The bungalows have the most beautiful swimming pool set high up amongst the trees. The view from the pool is spectacular. The bungalows and the area in general are in need of a bit of TLC - there are only 6 functioning sunbeds set around the pool with 4 broken ones piled up in the corner. There were 3 black sacks full of rubbish by the pool area that were there on our first day and still sat there on our last. The place could be really special, but, it’s tired and a bit grubby in places. The linen and towels were fresh and clean, our room was cleaned daily and cleaned well. It is a very reasonable daily rate and quite simply, you get what you pay for. One tip if you book here. Make sure you get specific directions, preferably translated into Thai to give the taxi driver as it’s not easy to find and very poorly signposted.

We booked for 9 nights and left after two. Very dirty and the stairs are a joke. The stairs lead to a busy street where you have to search for a place to enter Kata Beach. Kata Beach is gorgeous but public and very crowded. No public restrooms on the beach. Coffee and breakfast was delayed until 9am and after walking down 200 steps to get a cup a coffee we found the desk employee watering the plants instead of getting the coffee and breakfast ready. Our room was supposed to be ocean view but it wasn’t. Too much vegetation locking the view. Their were so many bugs in the light fixtures and the toilet paper roll was broken. We enjoyed 4 nights ate the Hi View Resort. A great location and great value. in the past we have stayed at The Boathouse opposite. But since our last visit the trarrif for the Boathose has increased dramatically due to the exchange rate and new owners. Staying at the Hi VIew Resort was 1/10 of the price (literally) wit hbetter views. The rooms were clean and basic but suited our needs perfectly. A Seven11 across the the road allowed for drinks and snacks to be purchased at a reasonable cost. The only downside were the stairs - 80 very steep stairs. The pre-booking warns of this several times, but if you are limited in your mobility or require assistance this may not be the accomodation for you. 80 steps rising 50 meters in a short space. The pool is another 40 steps again.
