Pen Villa Hotel

I came across Pen Villa as we were looking for a relaxing few nights before our home flight from Phuket Airport and we prefer a more traditional feeling in our Thailand hotels rather than a large resort, which now seems to be the norm in Phuket. The pool and grounds are as, if not more, glorious than the pictures show. It’s clearly a very well looked after property by the hospitable owners. The rooms are simple, but functional. The shower soaks the floor when using and the floor becomes slippy as the drainage isn’t sufficient. Our room had a kettle/cups, however our parents room didn’t so I don’t know if this was because we were in a different room category. The reviews speak for themselves, and point to the good value offered here, however there are couple of things I would’ve liked to have known before booking, which is that towels (beach/pool) have to be reused during the stay and dried over the balcony overnight - and the rules around not sitting on the bed with suntan lotion on, which I understand the reasons for however it made me on edge, especially with a child in tow and is not something I have ever come across before in all my years of staying in a range of accommodation. We didn’t eat breakfast at the Villa, we went to Grind House Coffee just a short walk away which I highly recommend you try. We also had a great dinner at Teddy’s restaurant, just round the corner which I recommend too - avoid the much talked about Butterfly restaurant, it’s highly overrated. The value at Pen Villa is very good, if you want a clean, comfortable and peaceful base in a busy town. I am unlikely to return to Surin Beach, indeed Phuket as a whole as the traffic is out of control which means it is not pleasant to walk around , building works are everywhere and a lots of abandoned / unkempt plots of land/construction sites.

Very clean hotel. Well-kept garden with large pool. Very nice owner couple. I felt comfortable. So if you are looking for a small hotel and, like me, detest the soulless concrete bunkers, this is the right place. Booking included Airport transfer I made directly at the hotel via email.

Very kind and helpful the owner and his wife. Clean and well-kept hotel, with a well-kept pool and garden, clean and spacious rooms. Surrounded by greenery, in a small street where there is a lot of tranquility, but very close to the beach of Surin. My wife and I had a great time there would stay again so I recommend it Thanks for the hospitality If I have to give advice I would put a coffee or tea maker and a hair dryer, otherwise I have no criticism to make
