Pailyn Sukhothai Hotel

A long-established four-story hotel located on National Route 12, about 10km west of downtown Sukhothai (just before Sukhothai Historical Park). It is a historic hotel that has hosted members of the Japanese imperial family, including Prince Akishino, Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko, in the past, and features a unique, innovative exterior that exudes a sense of prestige that is second to none in Sukhothai. Although it has been nearly 30 years since it opened and the interior is inevitably aging, you can still get a glimpse of the unique appearance of a long-established luxury hotel, such as the colonial-style guest room building design surrounding the courtyard pool, the design around the lobby that is reminiscent of a temple, and the guest room interior that is reminiscent of a traditional Thai house, with an abundance of wood and rattan furniture from northern Thailand. However, the hotel has already lacked both the software and hardware that form the basis of hotel management, such as the maintenance and renewal of the hotel facilities since its founding, and the employee service, and it is inevitable that its past reputation has declined. (Incidentally, there was no reception staff present at both check-in and check-out!) This hotel group originated in the old town area of Phitsanulok, and was originally one of the city's leading luxury hotels, positioning itself as a favorite with group tours from Japan, but it should be remembered as a bad incident in which the management had no interest in running the hotel and rested on their laurels.

This hotel used to be the best and biggest hotel in town during 80s-90s. Today is an rundown property with no maintenance. It is a place for go to sleep after explore the historical park all day and check out for the next day.

We arrived late afternoon and the hotel looked very impressive from the outside. We parked directly outside and the porter assisted with our suitcases and delivered them to our room. At check in there is a photograph of the former Prince now King when he stayed in 1991 so we were pleased that Royalty had stopped. The room was large and clean but unfortunately the toilet leaked so we were moved to the Imperial Suite which had a jacuzzi which was fantastic. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the breakfast team could not do enough for us, even cooking extra eggs when we arrived after most the other guests had eaten. It is a great location for visiting the Historical Park in Old Sukothai which is amazing. I imagine when the hotel was first opened it was very majestic, it does need some tender loving care and investment but for the price you cannot complain. There is a nice large swimming pool, free wifi in the reception area and free parking. Would recommend if you want close access to the old town which was nice to go to at night to eat.
