Baan Smile Place

Our son went on holiday with us, we stayed at the Mecure Hotel across the road, while he stayed at this backpackers so that he could have his own space and privacy, as young adult needs. He had the single room which had a double bed and its own shower. He had breakfast with us each morning, which was at our hotel (only THB250). The great part is they also offer a laundry service which is at a reasonable price (THB40 per kg). The facilities are good for a backpackers, but if looking to make guests stay even better, then a kettle, soap, shower gel and a shelf In the bathroom would be a nice touch. A word of warning, don't leave fruit or food open, as this just attracts ants, which is normal on any hot island - other guests need to be considered. The fee per day was THB700 for the single room, so it will be cheaper for those that want to share a dorm. A good way for a family to go on holiday and allow the young adults their own space.

We stayed here for 2 nights over new years eve 2015. Good location in Chaweng beach, lots of shops and restaurants nearby. We docked at Nathan pier and took over an hour to get to the hostel and cost 1500 bht! Very expensive! Staff were friendly and can book excursions here which we booked one day safari. This was good! We had our own room which was spacious, no frills but good for what we needed. You can get breakfast in the hostel next door or hotel over the road if you want to. We went to the Arc bar on new years eve, about a 30 minute walk where all the bars etc are so plenty to do and look at on the way. About 15-20 minutes from the airport. Overall would recommend if you just want a cheap place to get your head down.

This place does what it needs and doesn't exceed that however it was clean and the beds okay, however the rooms are crammed with bunks and feel a bit tight. The staff were good and helped us however some don't speak great English but not a massive issue! The main women is great and helped us with scooters and travelling can't complain about the place. Only issue I had was when I used the downstairs toilet there was a huge spider and I mean huge! Only reason I didn't give this hostel a 4 star.
