The Fisherman's Chalet

This will be a positive review of Fisherman's Chalets in Laem Set, located in the south west of Koh Samui, Thailand. This generally is the Thong Krat area. It is a nice, budget and family oriented set of chalets set on a hill and near a beach. While it may be rated four or five stars in its own market and price segment how could we give it five stars in the open market when one has such spectacular and stunningly beautiful hotels and resorts such as Inter Continental which are full-on five star and more? The chalets the, selves are nice and also clean. Our bed was comfortable. There was a kettle and mugs but no tea, coffee nor sugar! The bathroom taps were "tired". The curtains were of very thin fabric, thus at night the room was very light - illuminated by the lights illuminating the outside stairs. Thus it was not possible to darken the room. These curtains need to be replaced by block-out fabric. The staff were friendly and service oriented. The property itself was well maintained and beautiful. The pics will tell a story. The high point of our stay was the swimming pool. This is beautiful indeed and will be very popular among families. Near the hotel and within easy walking distance are several local restaurants. The Chalets have their own restaurant, JP's. A Family Mart is nearby as are several other attractions. It would be best to have your own transport as in the vicinity are several interesting spots. There are car and scooter rental shops on site. Nearby attractions include the rum distillery, tasting room and restaurant. Very well worth a visit. Several nice restaurants a short drive away. About three to five minutes walk takes one to a nice beach. The area experiences diurnal tides. This means that there is only one tide a day. The lows are long and slow. There are snakes on the property. Being a tropical island with lush jungle and forestation this is no surprise. One large snake walked across the path in front of us and headed for one of the chalets. Welcome to the tropics! We would recommend Fisherman's Chalets for people with a limited budget who are looking for nice, clean accommodation in the south of the island near interesting places.
