Kallapangha Resort

Located at the beach very close to the pier, with great view of the sea. We had a macaroni with with mushrooms (made "al dente") fried pumpkin and a sea food pad thai. Everything was fresh and very tasty. Good service, nice people, not too pricy. Recommend (!)

We booked a purple bungalow with shared bathroom for a total of 6 nights (2 minimum). The bungalow is located 10 meters from the beach, 5min from the main pier and 3min from the best chicken sandwiches in town. The owner is very friendly and they have a restaurant there too (didn't try it though). There is a really cool reggae bar on the beach with candles, incense cones and some hammocks. Unfortunately our bungalow were not very clean, the towels had several brown spots and the mattress was worn. We are not picky about accomodation and always try to stay on a tight budget but the bathrooms were tough to endure. They had a very foul smell, we never ever touched the toilet seat and they didn't seem to get cleaned that often. One time we had no electricity (in the evening) and another time there was no water, so we brushed our teeth with bottle water. Maybe the private bathrooms are better but we don't think we will be coming back, even for that price. (small bonus: there was a hook above the bed for our mosquito net)

I visited Kallapangha's 5 years previously and had the best time of my Thailand trip then - I can safely say the same for this trip too! Mrs Jim is a wonderful lady that runs a wonderful resort. There are purple bungalows for every budget. Her restaurant serves delicious food all day and has the extra beneficial addition of a beach bar that serves cold drinks from Midday through to late night. Mrs Jim's beach and bar have such a chilled out atmosphere, you can really submerse yourself in tranquility here - all a short walk away from the bars, restaurants and shops of Koh Tao. It is also very close by to the piers, so anyone staying on the island for just a day or two would definitely find this resort perfect - but equally for the traveller wishing to spend a bit more time. Thank you very much Mrs Jim and daughters for having us! Hopefully we'll be back again!
