Viang Tak City Wing

Tak is meant to be one of those places Farangs just don’t see, but occasionally it gets a visit, normally by those who have to sleep somewhere; it’s a “pass through” rather than “go to” down, and we stayed two nights to recharge the batteries after the drive north from Phuket. It’s a bit dated and more than a little weird (where do you see carpets in Thailand?) but the staff are super nice and we loved the corner room with good views of the river Ping. Beware two things; it is a conference venue which can mean music at night, and the breakfast is terrible - apart from that, we found it unusual and fun.

We stayed here as our last place on the journey around Northern Thailand. This is an older style modern classic hotel and one which is well maintained and very clean. We had a twin bed room that suited us well. It was spacious comfy bed with a good bathroom and great shower pressure! The aircon worked well and it was quiet. We visited the local market and ate at the open air restaurant which was great value and yummy local food washed down by a beer! It is close to the suspension bridge for a walk. Like a lot of towns off the beaten tourist track in Northern Thailand this is not geared to foreign visitors so you have to work for the food and beverage and attractions. That is part of the charm although we commented that some English on some of the town signage and attractions would be of benefit to travellers. A great opportunity awaits for these towns as there are hidden gems to discover without sacrificing their integrity. Recommend the hotel as a good place to stay !

On the way to Chiang Mai or Chiang Mai to Bangkok it is a real nice place to stay (unfortunately I stay only one night) The market you shouldn't miss. Food, food and everybody in a happy mood. Cross the river Ping Footbridge and you turn left to a good Thai restaurant. The hotel "Viang Thai riverside" is a clean place for reasonable price (last 15 years 900.- Baht) A happy customer, at least 10 times.
