1/5 Stars – Extremely Disappointing Stay, Terrible Management
We booked two rooms at the Golden Tulip Hammamet, but right from arrival, things went wrong. We checked in late and were given rooms on completely different floors.
Dirty Rooms & Disrespectful Management
Upon reaching my room late at night, the bed was filthy—there was sand on the bedsheets and the duvet cover was dirty. I requested a room change, but reception claimed nothing was available and promised that the manager, Mohammed (pictured), would sort it out after 10:00 AM the next day.
When the time came, Mohammed did nothing to help us. Instead, he was dismissive, kissed his teeth at us, and just waited for us to walk away. He clearly treated certain guests with respect while displaying a complete lack of courtesy and biased behavior toward people of color.
Management Stealing Chairs During Lunch
The lack of respect from management extended right into the dining room. During peak lunch hour when the restaurant was extremely busy, the hotel management decided to hold a meeting with fancy food at one of the tables. Our group was sitting at a large round table designed for six people, and management physically walked over, grabbed one of the chairs right off our table for their meeting, and then blatantly lied and denied taking it. To have management pull furniture away from paying guests during a busy service and then deny it to our faces shows a complete lack of basic professionalism.
Severe Towel & Housekeeping Issues
Because my room was dirty on the first night, I stripped the soiled sheets to have them replaced. The night receptionist brought new sheets, but the original towels were accidentally bundled up with the dirty linen and taken away.
The next morning, I asked the maid for replacement towels. She flatly refused, claiming she had already provided them, and proceeded to bug us about the "missing" towels for the next couple of days. Reception did nothing to resolve it. I literally had to go out and buy my own towels for a hotel stay.
Poor Facilities & Lack of Service
Lifts & Power Cuts: The elevators (serving 5 floors) kept suffering from power cuts. I personally saw an elderly gentleman forced to haul his heavy luggage down the stairs.
Lack of AC & Wi-Fi: Multiple guests were complaining about broken AC units and non-existent Wi-Fi in various rooms and bungalows.
Positives: The beach is a 5-minute walk across the road, and the gentleman running the outside pool shop was very nice and helpful (unlike the shopkeeper inside the hotel).
Final Verdict
This hotel caters almost exclusively to local guests and lacks fundamental hospitality standards. Between dirty rooms, dismissive management stealing chairs from guests, and discriminatory behavior from Mohammed at reception

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Our 4-day stay was catastrophic.. air conditioning issue not resolved in the room, DJ under our window so no restful night (we finally changed rooms after having fought for it..), power outage, water outage, leak during the heatwave, WiFi issue due to too many people connected, elevator breakdown.. to top it all off: private beach full of seaweed and not cleaned, some jellyfish and taxes to pay upon arriving at the hotel as well..
