Sumahan

Set in a restored distillery directly on the Bosphorus, this boutique hotel offers rooms with floor to ceiling windows that open onto the water. Watching the boats pass from the private terrace at sunset was a highlight, and the quiet location feels far from the busy city center.

Three people came to Sumahan on the Water for my friend’s birthday. We had booked for 6 p.m. and it was especially highlighted that the phone call had a 2-hour session. While this was reasonable, the hospitality of the restaurant was destroyed when we climbed down to the table floor as soon as the office lady sat back and warned us about the process. Unfortunately, our enjoyment was completely missed at the ordering stage. The server who took care of us, Mr. Sea, heard that we ordered pizza and salad, said, “Would you say nothing else?” and then said, “Then I’m bothering for the main meal,” and we felt like we had an inappropriate or inappropriate order. That attitude was reflected in their behavior during the meal. For example, the soda pizza we wanted to drink with our pizza came after it was done — almost like a joke. While the restaurant is quite quiet and empty, it feels like we didn’t deserve the table we sat at. After dinner, we wanted to take a birthday photo at a landmark in the hotel’s garden pool area. We got up with permission from our desk, but a staff member just came to us and told us that it was forbidden to take photos here for the sake of hotel guests’ privacy, and he distanced us from the area. But just then another customer could easily pose and take a photo in the same space. This double standard damaged my friend. We left this beautiful place for a birthday without even telling us our cake. We told Mr. Samet about what we had at departure. She was so understanding and kind. He tried to capture our heart by giving us a small gift and apologizing for what happened. She said she would take care of herself on our next arrival. But frankly, we don’t go to a restaurant because of the good will or reference of an employee. We came to this spot as ordinary customers who just wanted a good experience without asking for any perks. But we’ve found that it’s hard not to have an enjoyable evening here like that. It was sad to be treated to this level of indifference, disturbances, and discrimination in a vakko-named place. We just wanted respect and courtesy. Unfortunately, Sumahan on the Water failed to meet our expectations.

We felt at ease welcomed by a special family! All very well done and attentive to the customer. Truly fantastic location! Recommended for those who are not in a hurry. Connection to the city with efficient ferries, buses, taxis
