Armada

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Armada Hotel in Istanbul, particularly with the way the hotel handled a serious complaint after an otherwise pleasant stay. During my stay with my family from 4 to 7 August 2026, two brand-new towels that I had purchased as gifts, worth approximately 2,000 TL in total, disappeared from my hotel room (room 215). The towels were new, wrapped and had never been used. Before making any accusation, I searched my room several times and also checked my mother’s room (209), just to make absolutely certain that I had not misplaced them. The towels were nowhere to be found. I then reported the matter to reception. What followed was extremely frustrating. The hotel advertises 24-hour reception, yet when I went downstairs to report the disappearance, the receptionist was not present at the reception desk. I was repeatedly told that he would come and speak to me, but nobody did. I waited for more than an hour, repeatedly contacted reception, and eventually had to go downstairs myself. The receptionist eventually appeared and admitted that he had simply forgotten to call me and attend to my complaint. I asked for the official complaints book, but was told that the receptionist was not authorised to provide it. I was instead told that the manager would be at reception at 7:00 a.m. to deal with the matter. I subsequently sent a formal written complaint to the hotel, explaining the entire situation and providing all the relevant details, including a photograph of the shop where the towels had been purchased. Two weeks have now passed and I have received absolutely no response whatsoever. Not even an acknowledgement. Not even an explanation. Not even an apology. This is, in my opinion, completely unacceptable for a hotel — particularly one that advertises 24-hour reception service. I want to be clear: I am not claiming that the towels were deliberately taken by a member of staff. There may have been a genuine misunderstanding — perhaps housekeeping mistakenly thought they were rubbish, or perhaps they were removed by mistake. I was perfectly willing to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt. What I cannot understand or accept is the complete lack of attention and courtesy after I formally reported the incident. The problem is therefore no longer simply two missing towels. It is the way a paying guest was treated when raising a legitimate complaint: there was no receptionist present despite the advertised 24-hour reception, I was made to wait for more than an hour, my complaint was initially forgotten, I was given no meaningful assistance, and then my formal written complaint was completely ignored. This is particularly disappointing because, apart from this incident, my family and I actually had a pleasant and warm stay at the hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel's handling of this matter has completely changed my overall impression. A hotel does not have to be perfect. Mistakes can happen. What matters is how the hotel responds when something goes wrong. In this case, the response was essentially no response at all. I would not recommend this hotel based on the way complaints, guest belongings and basic customer service are handled. One star.

Happened to stumble on the Turkish Air free layover hotel offer when booking a trip. Thought surely this meant for real. It is. But to get a choice location you have to do it months early. Book any additional days at the same time and message them to combine so you don’t have to change rooms. They respond almost immediately to any inquiries. The Armada Hotel was in Old Town, between the Kennedy Caddesi and the Old Town itself. It is a steep unevenly cobbled climb up to the attractions, so bear that in mind if you have mobility or stroller needs. The hotel itself was lovely, and the staff were super friendly. Our room decor was older (“Old Town” , get it?) but well maintained and the room was scrupulously clean. Two large fresh sealed bottled waters were provided daily and were much appreciated. There’s an interesting and varied collection of antiques in the lobby. My husband was over the moon with the breakfast spread. Yes, a lot of savories and not as many seeets, but you’re in a country that prefers a savory breakfast. Enjoy the experience. Friday night (possibly others) there was a loud club with a repetitive beat. We kept the AC on to drown it out. It might bother you. We live in a central business district so are used to tuning out. The one con- and it’s a big one- I have with the Armada Hotel is the “convenient” ATM in the wall by the front door. I was hit with almost $90 in fees on two transactions- even though I chose not to use the conversion option, but to have it run through as Lira. DO NOT USE THEIR ATM. Absolute ripoff. Your best bet is to go to a PTT (Turkish Post Offoce) and use a machine there. They don’t charge a fee. Otherwise Google “cheapest ATM fee Istanbul”. Some banks were reasonable, some were beyond shocking. We cancelled several transactions and walked away, especially if it said something like “no receipt will print”. They don’t want you looking closely.

We stayed at this hotel for only one night during a stop-over of our flight and the experience was impeccable. The property is truly beautiful, well-maintained, and with a unique charm. The cleanliness is at a very high level, both in the common areas and in the room, an aspect that we always appreciate very much. The staff was the real icing on the cake: courtesy at the highest level, helpfulness, and professionalism that is rare to find. They made us feel welcome immediately despite the short stay. Special mention also for the breakfast: very, very good, rich, and varied. If we were to return to Istanbul, we would have no doubts: we will definitely come back here! Highly recommended even for those who have little time in the city.
