Yunus Emre Hostel Istanbul

I booked a room at the Yunus Emre Hotel, but by the arrival was send to the Hostel I was very tired and went to sleep because it was late. Next morning I looked around and was embarrassed, how dirty was this room, it as not cleaned for ages. Dirty bad shirts, no towels, no toilet paper, no any cleaning or disinfection of the bathroom at all! There was only one man in service, who was responsible for the reception, cleaning, kitchen and beds - allrounder!!! When I asked him to clean the room, he just laughed and ignored my request. Then I asked to move into other room for single use. He asked me to pay 20 Euro extra per day for that room which I booked in advance. When I offered him my credit card, he refused to take a card, he wanted only cash. When I wanted to leave he gave me his private account to transfer 80 Euros for 4 nights living. I didn't argue because I knew that this hotel belongs to the Government of Turkey. I will never transfer money to his private account due to my Civil Servant experience. Do I want to know who booked me, an elder woman, a bed in the hostel? I didn't book any hostel, I booked a room in the hotel. Now I am getting medical treatment due to the skin allergy, which caused me my living in this hotel and using a dirty bathroom (s.photos below)

Very very bad. I booked online a single room for 3 nights in this hotel it’s a real nightmare from reception to the room . At first he wanted to put me in dormitory of 4 beds. After I complained and showed him the reservation he gave me a single room. I couldn’t sleep more than a night, dust all over , poor light inside and totally dark in the hallway.It has no heat no hot water no soap no breakfast.Even worse i had to Kill a bug in the morning after i woke up.I gave up my 2 other nights and went to another hotel. The place is totally abandoned.

Heater was off, and the place was EXTREMELLY cold. Breakfast was very disappointing: few slices of bread, 1 boiled egg and jelly packs. The hotel also had a curfew time; as the receptionist would go to sleep at midnight. I contacted the hotel with my complaints - their reply? "You get what you pay for .... " referring to its price, 35 Euro/night. Totally unprofessional and disrespectful way to communicate with clients that are STILL visiting Istanbul in these crisis times ... I understand Turkey is going on a terrible tourism crisis, but if it is not profitable accepting tourists during the winter season, maybe the managers should reavaluate this situation. Or take better care of the few tourists that DESPITE all the crisis, are STILL traveling to visit. I have stayed in much cheaper European/American hostels, with much better service and treatment. 35 EUROS when the Turkish currency is LIRA .... 35 EUROS = 140 Liras, for a bed. PS: My father and I were the ONLY guests for the 5 days we stayed. Red flag right there!
