Having traveled almost all over the world, I never thought I would ever have to write such a negative review about a hotel. Let me start with the only positive point: the location. Costa Maya Bodrum is literally right in the center of Bodrum. Bodrum itself is a beautiful destination and absolutely worth a visit. Just don't let this hotel ruin your experience there. This will be a long review, but I recommend everyone to read it before booking here. Our experience was hugely disappointing and honestly I totally do not understand the many positive reviews about this hotel. We arrived in the evening and were received by Sedar. Contrary to what many reviews describe, we have experienced the reception as anything but welcoming. During our entire six-day stay she never greeted us and almost always sat behind the reception with a visibly unfriendly appearance. An employee named Willy enthusiastically told us that we got a free upgrade from a standard room to a room with balcony. That sounded great, of course, until we stepped into the room. The room and the sheets smelled extremely strong of cigarette smoke. In addition, there were two cockroaches running around. I literally walked out again within ten seconds and went straight back to reception. There was hardly any response; Sedar didn't even look at us and only shouted something in Turkish to Willy that he should give us another room quickly. In the end we got a family room for four people, while we traveled together. In retrospect, I suspect that this was simply because all standard rooms were already occupied. The family room was big, but that was also the only positive thing about it. On the outside of the toilet bowl were traces of urine from a previous guest. The room was dirty, the sheets were full of stains, the window was extremely small which made the room feel stuffy, the kettle was mouldy and the television did not work. I could give many more examples. And that while we paid €120 per night and stayed here for six nights. Even outside the room the service was particularly disappointing. Every time we went to the reception with a question, we were told in an unfriendly and hasty way that we should just get in touch via WhatsApp. At the reception we almost never got an answer. During our stay I sent about twenty messages via WhatsApp, of which only two were actually answered and followed up. In addition, we had to indicate every day via WhatsApp whether our room needed cleaning. We did this consistently and well in time, usually around 12.00 or 13.00. Yet we regularly returned to the room in the evening to discover that there was no cleaning at all. After reading this review, I may sound like a spoiled or ungrateful person, but I am definitely not. I am a 28-year-old, positive and cheerful woman who is usually quickly satisfied and does not complain easily. But this hotel was simply not in order. If I can save even one person from a disappointing experience at Costa Maya Bodrum with this review, then I am already happy.
