The location is good and conveniently close to the town centre. However, I was surprised that there was no parking, as other Travelodge hotels I have stayed at usually provide parking facilities.
I was given a room directly opposite the bar, which was quite noisy and made it difficult to relax.
At around 11:00 pm, after returning from buying food, I was stopped by the receptionist, B..., and asked to confirm my name in front of his colleagues. I was told this was for my safety, but I have stayed at Travelodge many times and have never experienced being asked to reconfirm my identity after already checking in. I found this unnecessary and embarrassing.
The same morning, as I was leaving the hotel with a shopping bag, another receptionist shouted, "Are you leaving?" I was surprised by this, as it made me feel as though I was unfamiliar with basic hotel procedures such as check-out times. I found the interaction offensive and left wondering whether I was being treated differently because i am a person of colour. I hope Travelodge reviews its staff training to ensure all guests are treated with courtesy, respect and, consistency.

First stay here. Great service from reception (Viola) and quick check in. Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was a little shabby but did the job and the bed was really cosy. No bedside tables in our room which was a little annoying. Bring ear plugs and water.

This place is hideous, be warned. I booked it thinking the usual ‘you know what you’re getting with a Travelodge.’ We were only in town a few days and had lots booked so I figured we wouldn’t be in the room much so no point going somewhere fancy, may as well book something cheap cheerful and central. But I regret that now. The room was filthy and smelled pretty bad. We opened the window which was in the corner behind the desk and the window was covered in bird poo and had barely any airflow in. The ‘view’ was into a sort of courtyard with walls on all four sides and tightly packed. You could just about see a bit of sky if you looked up. It was so hot at night even with the window open it made it hard to sleep. Outside temperature was around 14-18 when we were there so wasn’t even hot outside. When we did try to close the window it wouldn’t even shut all the way.
The room was basic. There was a desk and rail but other than that there were no bedside tables or shelves so a lot of our things had to sit on the dirty floor.
The bathroom was grim. There was a mental rod for the towels to sit on that was so close to the loo that my husband hit his face the first time he went to the loo. Other than that there were no hooks to hang towels up once used so we had to get new towels each day.
The left luggage cupboard is a joke and the reception area is basic as hell.
Just grim and I’m mad I paid as much as I did to have that filthy experience. Everything went on a hot wash as soon as we got home.
