THE ROYAL HOTEL

A few years ago we attended The Open Championship in Royal Troon and stayed a few days on the nearby island of Arran. We serendipitously learned of a few golf courses near Campbeltown and decided to take the Caledonia McBrayne (Calmac) over to Kintyre, and down to Machrihanish to play. It was an unexpected bucket list course, one that was void of being able to see any of Campbeltown. I dreamt of this town for 2 years, and we ultimately made a return visit this July. We couldn't be more thrilled that we chose the Royal Hotel. First, we arrived from a different direction - - Northern Ireland, by way of the Kintyre Express, a local service that took us from Ballycastle to Campbeltown in 90 minutes. The hotel was only steps away from the marina, and when we finally arrived in our room, we had a gorgeous view of the marina. The hotel is absolutely lovely, our room was compact, but clean and beautiful. With open windows, the pub below provided some nighttime noise, but quickly dissipated. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and one staff member even walked me down the street to help me find the rental car company. I love everything about Campbeltown, and the Royal Hotel - - they also made our golf reservations for the Dunes course, which is owned by the same company. I hope I'll be able to come back and visit, because this was just an incredible memory.

Lovely hotel. Great atmosphere in the black sheep. We had a small hiccup but Caroline did a fantastic job resolving the problem. Top marks. Rhona in the restaurant keep us amused and looked after our party splendidly. Love to go back.

Location good and within town centre., Room was clean, however not worth the money we paid. Service within the bar and restaurant extremely poor. despite having sufficient staff on, but we’re all sitting talking together. We originally went into the bar to eat and waited 10 mins, as there was no one serving, we then went into the restaurant and there was about 5 staff sitting round a table talking, including the person who should have been serving in the bar. Staff did not look happy to see us. No one gave us a menu, we had to get our own and it took 10 mins to actually come and take our drinks and meal order despite so many staff and only one other couple eating there. Staff would benefit from some type of customer care training. There are nice places to eat round about, whose staff are more attentive. My advise is to eat somewhere else. Receptionist was lovely and pleasant.
