The Portsonachan Hotel

Had a fantastic 3 days staying here the view is superb looking out over the Loch. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We ate there every night and the food was great, breakfast was continental but Lots to choose from but there was a cooked option. We will be back

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Purchased a deal through 5pm for a 3 night lodge stay with sauna and hot tub. I wish I had checked reviews before our arrival! On arrival with our 5 and 4 year old children we could see the standard of lodge was not as advertised. The lodge had not been cleaned, human and dog hair everywhere, big rips on the sofas, food crumbs on the table and floors, mould in the bathroom and just general grime everywhere. My son suffers from allergies and asthma, but to be honest even if he didn't I wouldn't stay in the lodge, it is a disgrace. The sauna was also not operational and hasn't been for some time in the lodge we had been assigned (Carrick), it was actually locked shut. We headed to reception and checked straight out. We were told by the receptionist they get this a lot. We asked for a full refund and were told the only person who could give us a refund would be the hotel manager who wouldn't be in until the next day. We called back the next day and were told the manager wouldn't be in until 4pm and he would phone us back. Needless to say he never did and after repeated calls no one got back to us. Multiple emails to 5pm customer service and Portsonachan and still trying to get my money back l. Management have a don't care kind of attitude. Don't waste your time or money, place should be condemned. Attached are some of the photos taken showing the unclean state of the property upon check in - the mould, faeces, food crumbs, human and dog hair, ripped furniture, filthy floors. I am now pursuing a refund via my credit card company due to being repeatedly ignored by Kelly Smith who replied once and asked for photos and then never replied again. Not interested.

I actually don’t know where to begin. The hotel called us the night before our stay at 9pm to say all hot tubs in the cabins we are staying at are broken. The man on the phone claimed it wasn’t the be all end all as if this wasn’t a big deal (cabin was advertised in the name as ‘Cabin with Hot Tub). We weren’t offered any compensation for this just rescheduling. Bit unrealistic at the time the night before when we were packed to go and our holidays already booked off. We got to check in around 4:30pm, they offered £100 (£50 per night) refund for the hot tub not working (they said that repair man didn’t turn up that morning and hopefully will turn up soon). We got to the cabin and looked at the hot tub. Drained of water and absolutely minging on the inside as if not been used in a long time. So clearly the hotel were aware of this problem earlier than 9pm the night before our stay and no one has been out to repair the hot tub during our stay so I believe this is a lie that there ever was intent to fix them. The bedding had marks on it as if it had not been laundered. The bathroom was covered in mildew/mould, the shower drain was blocked and the colour of the water coming out of the bath and shower was awful. The cabin itself is totally run down and in need of good refurb and deep clean. We went to our top floor balcony and there was dog poo on it!!! Clearly not been properly checked or cleaned prior to our arrival. The kettle was just full of lime scale and needing replaced. Basics like salt and pepper and proper cooking utensils, sponge to wash dishes with was not there and also no hairdryer. Oven didnt work (grill and hob ok) , the list goes on. Just totally lazy to be honest and I wouldn’t ever come back here. And to top it off no receptionist there to report problems to. From what I’ve gathered speaking to other guests, similar experiences (many leaving their visit early) and they are heavily understaffed. Real shame as the place has a lot of potential but the owner needs a reality check if they think people are truly going to come and enjoy their stay.
