I rarely write reviews, but the Kilfinan really deserves one. We spent three nights at the hotel and have to say it was one of the most relaxing breaks we’ve had and was a real highlight of our week in Scotland. The hotel is full of charm and character and the landlords, Rosie and Ian went out of their way to make us feel welcome and our stay extra special. The room has everything we needed and with a really comfy good sized bed and lovely view down towards the water. We also loved spending our evenings in the bar where Andy looked after us and we were made to feel like one of the locals right away. The food as well was genuinely great, we really loved the halibut which came from down the road as does much of the produce which was good to know. There is loads to do in the local area, we found a couple of walks through the estate and down to the sandy beach which has the most insane sunset. We also tried one of the reformer classes at the hotel studio which was incredible, Rosie was a very patient instructor. If you want somewhere where you can relax and unwind in a comfortable setting Kilfinan is the perfect spot!

The Kilfinan is lost down long narrow country roads some 17 miles north of the Portavadie ferry but its remoteness is part of its appeal, with virtually no passing traffic (but also relatively few views). Having changed hands frequently in recent years, it's now run by a young couple still learning the trade but with ambitious and sensible plans to offer yoga retreats. Nice big comfortable room and a very Scottish bar – but be sure to check about dinner : the hosts need advance notice and there's nowhere else for miles around.

This is a great hotel in a fabulous location. All staff were welcoming and attentive with a focus on customer service. Rooms are traditionally furnished and contain all the amenities needed for a short stay, including the largest array of Pukka teas outside the Pukka factory!! Food was a highlight, we had both dinner and breakfast which were of a high standard. Rosie produces tasty food with an emphasis on local produce. The bar area is small and welcoming and ideal in all seasons. This is hospitality at its finest.
