I loved this hostel. Truly. Yes it's a hostel so people are loud, doors slam and sometimes you have rude people in the kitchen or in common areas.
But the waterfront property has the most incredible views in the kitchen, common rooms and even some guest rooms. My six-bed female dorm had a bay window overlooking the water and everyone who walked in and saw the big open view said "wow!" Truly a gem to just be in there and taking in the ferries going back and forth throughout the day.
Even in rain when stuck inside, it's not a bad view.
Hostel has 15 spots for guest parking, otherwise there are paid lots nearby. The hostel is a bit out of the main town but very walkable. Kitchen is big and well stocked and there is good fridge and shelf storage.
Wifi is also good throughout the hostel. Laundry on-site too although not connected so if it's raining be ready to cover the clothes.
Staff was really polite and helpful, always ready to help and answer questions. Beds are super comfortable and have a good reading light, but not all have a plug nearby.
My only complaint was the shower in the six-bed dorm. It was so strong that it flooded the bathroom and spray would get on clothes or towels hanging on the door. It's rare to say that pressure was TOO intense but walking out with wet clothes and no real place to hang things inside, didn't really work out.
That said, I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it. This is a great Hosteling Scotland location.

I think those accustomed to the world of hosteling will find the accommodations more than adequate. It does require a bit of a stroll to most shops and restaurants, but the locale turns that into a pleasant endeavor, even in subideal weather.

Yes, I returned to Oban Youth Hostel after 70yrs and had an excellent experience, nice accommodation, beautiful sunny weather. Clean kitchen, not too busy, quite time of the year...but right on the Seafront close to the town centre. Travelled on the boat to Craignure before booking into the Youth Hostel..beautiful sunny day, Had a drink from the reception and sat out enjoying the sun...watching the boats come and go. Saturday morning I again travelled on the boat to Craignure another bright and sunny day, then I caught the bus back to Glasgow
