I've stayed at the voco Reading twice recently, using it as my base for several day trips around the region. During these stays I visited Richmond & Richmond Park, Oxford & Bicester Village, as well as Marlow and the beautiful Chiltern Hills. The hotel's location makes it a convenient choice if you're exploring by car.
This is not a luxury or destination hotel, but that's not what it tries to be. It is usually very reasonably priced and offers excellent value for money. The rooms are comfortable, clean and well maintained, while the staff are consistently friendly, welcoming and professional. Service has always been more than satisfactory for a hotel in this price range.
As an IHG Diamond Elite member, I have been upgraded on both stays from a standard room to a One King Bedroom Suite, which was very much appreciated and made the stays even more enjoyable.
Overall, if you're looking for an affordable, reliable hotel with good service and comfortable accommodation, voco Reading is a solid choice. I would happily stay here again whenever I'm visiting this part of England.

I spent two nights here for an event in a rather outdated but perfectly okay suite on the first floor. As others have reported the hotel does need a revamp. I spend 200+ nights a year in hotels, mainly IHG.
The pros:
1. Breakfast was fantastic with the second best scrambled eggs! (The first are still at Hotell Palace, Tallinn, Estonia). Scrambled eggs in hotels are really difficult to get right but someone here managed it!
2. The bed linen is wonderful and the superb.
3. The sports bar is average but the food was really pretty good.
4. The air conditioning is brilliant!
The cons:
1. Housekeeping appears to be completely unmanaged. The corridors are littered with huge volumes of dirty linen, bottles, glassware, and black rubbish sacks pretty much all day.
Then there’s the shouting in the corridors by the housekeepers. Dreadful.
Then on my check out day, and despite the ‘do not disturb sign’ I was appalled to be disturbed by a housekeeper supervisor demonically banging on the door sarcastically saying ‘I hope you have a late check out?’ I did. She should have known that but said she didn’t.
A first in terms of shocking behaviour in any hotel in which I’ve stayed!

Overall a great experience with the exception of the evening meal. Both my colleague and I ordered the Baked Salmon Fillet, Herb Crust. His came with two small squares of Herb Crust Salmon. I ordered just as my colleague's meals arrived. However mine took over 30 mins to arrive and when it did there was only one small square of salmon yet I paid the same price! Rather rude!
Rooms were nice. Air conditioned, Light and airy. Bathroom had a shower over bath, as opposed to a walk-in, but there was a shaving / vanity mirror with magnification. Tea and coffee making facilities plus water.
Breakfast offered a good selection of hot and cold buffet items, and staff were happy to provide freshly prepared poached eggs.
Overall a good experience, if a little overpriced considering location is at the Reading FC Stadium. However it is convenient to nearby business park for work.
