Buckingham Hotel

Stayed here for 4 nights, booked last minute. Bonus was the carpark. Outside, it looks clean, reception is tiny, and had what looked like decorating equipment stacked up on arrival. The staff was polite and friendly. On entering the door to the bedrooms, there was a very strong smell of smoke, dope, and cooking food. The bedroom was tiny and clean, had a microwave, and had a small fridge inside. The ensuite door hit the end of the bed, and the smell of cigarette smoke in the bathroom was so strong. I was informed that the hotel is a non-smoking hotel when I enquired about the cigarette smoke smell in the room and the dope smell in the corridor. Again, the staff was nice and changed our room, to what I was told to be a more "impressive" room. The room was bigger, clean, and had a small fridge and microwave in it. The curtains badly hung and not blackout, the ensuite had a lot of mould, water swollen skirting board, the shower screen was a battle to open and close, wallpaper torn, wear and tear damage on the walls, same along the corridor and the first room. This place has potential, and the staff were nice anytime we spoke with them. The location was good 10 minutes walk into the town.

This isn’t a hotel. There is no food available whatsoever and on a rainy night, I was told to go yk the nearby petrol station and buy a sandwich! I wanted a meal! Similarly, no breakfast was provided and no cafes were nearby! The men in reception didn’t know what to say when I asked about dining facilities! As I said, hotels serve food and this doesn’t! Not even tea or coffee. Absolutely appalling!!

Comfortable beds, room needs a fan, noisy if windows are open. No lift, need to carry suitcase up 2 flights of steep stairs. Bathroom window is overlooked and I feel it needs a curtain for privacy, or use a towel as I did . Clean room and bathroom.
