Royal Hotel-Thurso

We stayed in the hotel as part of a coach trip. There was a lovely young man that helped carry cases upstairs. That is the best thing I can say about it. Everything else was terrible. We seemed like we were second class citizens to either be controlled or ignored. Sat down for breakfast and was immediately given a plate of cold cooked breakfast and was told everyone gets one. The tea, coffee and toast already on the table so cold. At the very expensive bar we paid in cash but were told that they didn't have any change so we didn't get any!!! Although we did have hot water some people didn't and the WiFi only worked in the foyer. A child who must belong to an employee seemed to have authority over the staff. Internet being upgraded... Chefs day off... Power outage so no hot water... Some of the excuses. We have no idea why coach companies use this dump.

Was on a N C 500 bus trip and stayed 2 nights . bed was comfortable but rooms needs attention to decor . The hotel food wasn’t so good . Seemed very small portions at breakfast time and evening meal . I am not a big eater but what I got was still small potions. One sausage one egg one slice bacon half a tomato . One of our group saw some black pudding being served to another guest who was not on our bus. He asked for some but was told it’s not for the bus trips 😂. Table service was poor at evening meals and the meals again were small portions with frozen veg . The potatoes seemed tinned and were tasteless . We payed a lot of money for our holiday but will not be going again if this hotel is on the itinary .

Penny pinching dump. On the first day we had dinner and it was 2 little potatoes, a floret of broccoli, a little sweetcorn and beef stew. We were on a coach tour and didn't hear breakfast times for tthe next day and went down too early. The restaurant supervisor was so rude and aggressive, even as we were walking out he wouldn't stop shouting and scolding us like we were his employees! As a result we didn't go for breakfast or dinner again, even though we had paid for it! . Nobody ever on reception when we went and no hot water early morning. AVOID!
