The location of this hotel was ideal for our needs.
There was no receptionist when we arrived to check in, we did ring a bell for attention but still had quite a wait for someone to arrive. There is additional coffee/tea etc at reception should you need extra for your room and the option to purchase packs of items you may have forgotten such as shaving items, these are quite costly though, approximately £10/pack if I remember correctly. There is a Morrisons store/petrol station over the road and a retail park which is handy for any items you may need to buy during your stay.
We were on the second floor, there is one lift which we never had to wait long for. Our room overlooked a busy road however due to the secondary glazing there was no disturbance from traffic noise. The room was clean and well set out, plenty of coat hangers, an ironing board, a mirror with lights and a socket/shelving which I found convenient for applying makeup and using hair appliances. There were two pillows on the bed and additional pillows available in the room. The bed was large and comfortable with clean bedding. The curtains were lined and overlapped well so blocked any light from outside. The heating was easily adjustable to suit your individual requirements. The bathroom was acceptable and clean if a little tired looking, the shower was adequate but only had an overhead option, and could have done with a bit more water pressure. The bathroom did steam up quite a bit when using the shower.
We had an evening meal with friends, the restaurant/bar area is nicely decorated and the bar well stocked with a good selection of drinks on offer, there is a happy hour too on selected drinks. The menu had decent options for our omni pals however the vegan options were not particularly to our tastes, a bean style burger and a tomato pasta dish being the main options, and a side dish or two.
We had breakfast which we found to be very good. A selection of juices, coffee/tea, cereal, fruit, yogurt, pastries, pancakes, toast, sunflower spread/butter, jam/marmalade/peanut butter/marmite/honey/maple syrup and also a full menu for cooked breakfast, your order is taken and it is individually cooked for you. There was soya milk available upon request. The second morning there was no host to take our room number, we waited for a while and then just decided to make a start, it seems there is a bit of multitasking going on with reception/host duties which isn’t particularly great.
We were advised by email that work was taking place at the hotel however this did not affect us as we stayed during a weekend however there will be noise during weekdays from the works. There is an area of the car park taken over for the workmen however there are still plenty of car park spaces available, just remember to register your car on the machine at reception for the duration of your stay.
The staff we dealt with during our stay were pleasant and professional.
Altogether a good experience and we would stay here again.
