The Upper House

What a delightful place to stay! We booked for a three night stay in September at the Upper House in Barlaston, but circumstances meant that we extended for two extra nights. We loved it, and have already booked our next visit for December. A warm and cosy "English Country Manor" hotel with very comfortable and clean rooms, a restaurant with a superb chef, friendly, welcoming, helpful and caring staff, and a generally cosy atmosphere, it's a great alternative to the usual "chain" hotels. The Upper House is well located, easy to reach from the M6 J14 or 15, and about 1.5 miles from the main A34. It's a short drive to Trentham Gardens or the Wedgewood Centre, and about 15 mins from the Bet365 Stadium. But - better than that, it's set in some wonderfully scenic countryside, with easy walks from the door to the nearby National Trust Downs Banks (but watch out for the steps on one of the paths on the Downs... next time I'm taking the clockwise route!) There are two or three 7kW EV chargers, with a flat rate for overnight charging. I was advised to call ahead to book a place in advance, which I did. If they're all booked, there is a large charging station a few minutes away at Trentham Gardens, and plenty of other nearby options. Thanks to all of the team at The Upper House who took care of us and made our stay so enjoyable, despite my unfortunate "trip on the Downs"! We're looking forward to seeing you again in December.

I'd never visited The Upper House Hotel before. I stayed for a weekend with a friend in order to visit various Stoke potteries. I don't normally sleep well in hotels but I did at the Upper House. My bedroom was quiet, the bed extremely comfortable, blinds and curtains kept the sun out and a window that opened allowed fresh air in. The food was excellent and the service first class and very friendly. I look forward to a return visit.

The Upper House Hotel is a lovely place with good food nice bedrooms and atmosphere. It is handy for Trentham Gardens and shopping, the Wedgwood Pottery centre and factory tour, the Gothic Revival Church of St Giles, a Pugin gem, in Cheadle, Stoke on Trent (not Cheadle Hulme). We had a lovely 2 nights there.
