Britannia Ashley Hotel

Terrible hotel, needs a major renovation.

Just needed a local hotel to the office while my central heating was not working. Wow, this is sooooo bad. I wish I’d looked at the reviews first. But what’s worse is the staff tell me that it’s going to house 100 and odd people arriving on rubber boats shortly. I’m sure they’re very nice people but do hotel guests really want to stay in the same hotel? I somehow doubt it.

Booked this hotel with dinner and breakfast before a morning flight from Manchester. Cost £140, with a further £8 for airport transfer. Lobby busy with noisy party playing pool, making it difficult to hear when checking in. Had to wait 15 mins for check in process. Stairway and hall carpets to rooms in filthy and worn out condition. Dinner was 3 course from set menu. Good was portion size, and speed of food delivery, bad was location where volume from previously mentioned noisy party had increased, also fish described as cod was awful and batter tasted like oil not changed for a long time. Bar service slow and inattentive- mind you looking after noisy group can’t have been easy to manage. Breakfast - website advises that continental breakfast is available from 4.00am. Reality was that restaurant did not open until after 7.00am, making it a rush to get something to eat, then be back in lobby with luggage 15 mins before bus transfer arrived. Overall very disappointed with Brittania, will not use this group again
