The Waverley Hotel

Delightful friendly and courteous staff. Everyone was cheerful and pleased to help. The hotel itself was an old style type with a maze of corridors and stairs but the place was clean and tidy. Nice free car park right out the back, which turns out is the front. At least that's where reception is. Handy for the station which is just a five minute walk away. The Wifi however was not very good. There was apparently a choice of two log-ins, both using the same password, but one wasn't accessible in our room and the other one simply wouldn't connect. I think it needs upgrading, but 5G reception was pretty good, so not too much of a problem. Our double room was small, but functional and the shower worked well. The TV was a bit small, but who stays in a hotel and watches TV? Our only slight moan was that the bathroom door (14) latch sticks so that opening it became a bit difficult. We didn't get the opportunity to tell anyone before we left, so apologies for putting that on here. Which brings us to breakfast. No complaints, just observations. We asked if they did a "veggie" cooked breakfast, which they said they did, but the veggie version was simply a case of removing the sausage and bacon from the Full English. Many places offer veggie substitutes or perhaps even give extra hash browns or mushrooms. But other than that it was all freshly cooked and served with a smile. Also a great spread of cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc. The stewed tea in a flask was a bit strange, but we're "soft southerners" so our vegetarian & freshly brewed tea habits were maybe out of place. We would definitely stay again when in the area.

the overwhelming advantages with this hotel are price and breakfast! the rooms are tired and very basic but you get what you pay for! service was good especially the lady at breakfast.

Horrible old hotel breakfast is horrible, hotel smells of mould, ery outdated the rooms are tiny very tiny
