Wheal Tor Hotel - Guest House

We had three of the cabins in the woods which were all great. They were lovely and quiet and cool, which was great considering how hot it was outside. Beds were well made and comfortable. The cabins were all and tidy, with tea and coffee supplied. The showers (with good water pressure) and toilets were a few steps down a the hill. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, and very dog friendly. There was plenty of parking with easy access to the cabins (though it is a few steps away) We ate in the pub for supper and breakfast which was fantastic, with some great veggie options. There was space if you wanted to bbq yourself and we saw a few people doing this. Would definitely return. There’s a lot to do in the area.

Now this is an excellent place to stay! Whether you are a walker, runner, cyclist, holidaymaker, attending a nearby wedding (they can do weddings here too) or destressing then I think you will love it. It’s located at the south eastern edge of Bodmin Moor just up the hill from the main road. You’ll know you are there by the amount of sheep and wild ponies all over the place. The road up can feel a bit rough but it’s worth it once you get to the Hotel. The room was spacious and rustic with a great view into a little wooded area with lots of sheep, lambs and robins. There are also little glamping rooms to the side surrounded by trees. Breakfast is very nice. The Bar is very welcoming. One thing we noticed was the amount of people turning up for dinner in the bar/restaurant. People come from miles around and whilst I didn’t eat there I now wish that I had!. The owners are exceptionally friendly and full of information about the local area, where to watch a nice sunrise over Dartmoor and good places to visit. I recommend climbing the little hill to the back of the Hotel for a great view North and also towards Dartmoor. It’s windy but worth it. There is an outside seating area to the front of the Hotel for drinks in the Sun. There is a little village nearby for essentials and Liskeard is about 12 minutes drive away. The scenery in all directions is beautiful and at night it is very quiet. All in all it was a lovely stay and we have plans to return. So, if you like a bit of nature, great views and a really relaxed stay in Cornwall then this could be the place for you.

We visited wheal Tor for dinner while on holiday in Polperro and we were not disappointed. The setting is stunning with far reaching views across the moor toward Dartmoor, Plymouth and the Cornish coast. The building and decking is beautiful while the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We sat in the conservatory with the view out to the front and gorgeous stone wall behind. The staff were so friendly and the food was just amazing; I would recommend the scallops wrapped in prosciutto and the Wheal Tor burger. Also make sure you try the sticky toffee pudding, just lovely. This wonderful place is a little off the beaten track however well worth the effort in getting to it. We can’t wait to go back.
