Yeo Dale Hotel

I stayed at the Yeo Dale Hotel from 7th to 10th September. Anyone entering the building for the first time has to ring the doorbell, as the front door is locked at all times. My room was upgraded from a smaller double to a larger one at no extra cost, which was very welcome and made the stay very good value. The room was clean, well decorated, had a comfortable bed, and also included its own fridge — a very useful addition, though I don’t believe every room has one. Tea and coffee supplies were provided, but these are not automatically replenished daily, so guests need to ask if they want items restocked. The Full English breakfast was excellent, although the breakfast window is quite narrow at 7:30–8:30am. As a B&B, the stay was genuinely very good. However, the establishment advertises itself as a hotel, and the website refers to a “licensed restaurant”. On arrival I asked about dinner that evening and was told they weren’t cooking. I asked about the following two evenings and received the same answer. The website states that dinner is available on a pre‑book basis with 24 hours’ notice, but this service simply wasn’t offered during my stay. In my view, the Yeo Dale needs to decide whether it is operating as a hotel or as a Bed & Breakfast. As a B&B it excels, but as a hotel it falls short due to the lack of any evening meal option in the advertised “licensed restaurant”. Would I stay here again? Yes — but with the understanding that it operates far more as a very good B&B than a hotel.

Stayed in this hotel on a recent trip to Devon and Cornwall enroute back to Bristol Airport. We arrived a little early, but Paul allowed us to check-in anyway, upgraded our room and showed me where to park. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring Barnstable. The room did not have any air conditioning or fan, which made for an uncomfortable nights sleep.

Overall a good stay (6 person golf trip). Clean, comfortable and good breakfast. Rooms are fine if a little dated. There is a lot of road noise in the front.
