The Rising Sun Inn

Just wow!!!! There have been new owners for 6 years. Above the pup, which closes at 11 p.m., Kelly and her husband have furnished dreamlike rooms. We had "the Green room" without kitchen. "The blue room" has kitchen with everything you need. Direct sea view that looks different every day. The landlords have a fantastic beer selection and a very good food selection .... very good daily menu, freshly cooked and delicious - not a typical fish and chips. You can go to the sea right outside the door! Kelly and her husband are wonderful and warm hosts. Next year again!

We went to The Rising Sun Inn for Sunday lunch. The ale was well kept so we had more and the new owners have done a smashing job on the renovation. Loved the shiny tiles in the loo! My husband and I shared the lamb Mac n cheese for starter ( very naughty) and then we both had roast beef with all the trimmings. We enjoyed everything but particularly enjoyed the red wine gravy which was delicious and complemented the meat and veg beautifully. Lovely parmesan crumble on the cauliower. We chose a nice bottle of french pinot noir to enjoy with lunch. Very good selection of wines to choose from. The staff were all lovely, service was timed just right and we were well looked after. We visited the Rising Sun several times during our week’s holiday and thoroughly enjoyed each visit, especially sitting outside in the sun watching the sea crash against the nearby sea wall. What a great location. The lady behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly, as was the landlord and waiting staff. We had the fish and chips on our last night and they were excellent, fresh, hot, and tasty. They came with the added bonus of a pot of curry sauce along with tasty tartare sauce and mushy peas. What a gem to find in Portmellon.
