Trenython Manor Hotel and Spa

Pure bliss! Staying in a cabin. Clean, spacious, comfortable. Lovely view. Very friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful location.

On arrival, we showed our confirmation email on my phone to the receptionist, signed in, and were directed to a Lodge room. This was unexpected, but we followed the instructions and drove the short distance (about a minute) to the lodge and placed our luggage in the room. After sitting down to recover from the journey, the phone rang. The receptionist informed us that we had been checked into the wrong lodge and room by mistake, and asked us to return to reception so they could correct it. They were very apologetic, and we were then given the correct room. I did ask whether we might receive a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience, but this was refused. I was told compensation wasn’t available unless we purchased the timeshare option, which felt inappropriate given the hotel’s own error. The room we were eventually allotted was clean, comfortable, and a good size. However, I do feel that some form of acknowledgement or recompense for the disruption would have been reasonable. Unfortunately, we will not be looking to stay there again.

We are nearly at the end of our week and find the accommodation needs updating. We previously stayed here in 2014 and 2016 and we have always stayed in the 2 bed/2 bath lodges and can compare with previous visits. This time we are in lodge 303 which is sadly lacking in a few areas. The bathrooms and bedrooms are still very good and the beds comfortable with good quality bedding and white fluffy towels. However, the kitchen, dining and lounge areas are in need of attention. The dining room chairs have covers that hide stained seats that are not nice at all. I mentioned this to the lady housekeeper who knocked on our door to ask if we needed anything. She said there was nothing she could do about this. The second bedroom is lacking the couch that is usually in situ and the curtains are not of good quality in the lounge/dining room. The outside patio was littered with leaves when we arrived and still is and is in need of repainting as is the outside of the lodge. For the supposedly top of the range and most expensive we are disappointed in how the lodges have deteriorated. We have not used the spa, gym or pool as we prefer walking the SWCP and visiting the fishing villages close by. Having said this I would stay again as I can see from pics that some lodges have been modernised. However, despite the above, we have enjoyed our stay as the area and village of Tywardreath is lovely. The pub in the village is well worth a visit for lunch or dinner.
