Damson Dene Hotel

Excellent food at breakfast and dinner and clean, comfortable rooms. Staff helpful and friendly. Views were lovely from the dining room. Easy to get to the lakes and lovely surroundings. Only negative is the outside space to Damson Tree (bar area). The patio floor needs cleaning and a table and umbrella was broken. Cushions were missing or mouldy. Againt the rest of the beautiful grounds, this was disappointing.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff and a beautiful grounds with a lovely pond with ducks waddling around. We had the 4 poster bedroom which was lovely with views. Breakfast was good and evening dinner was delicious. Excellent value on a Travelzoo deal. Stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed it. Left my sunglasses behind and rang hotel who posted them to me without hesitation. I recommend this hotel. We had a lovely stay. There’s not much around the area you have to travel but it’s gorgeous to come back to after a day exploring the lakes

The hotel and its grounds are quite beautiful and the staff friendly. On those points I have no complaints. The food was decent too. However, room 57, which I had for one night, has multiple issues. The primary problem is that it is not good for sleeping in - the very thing you want most in a hotel. It has been created in a roof space (making it a very odd shape) which means it absorbs lots of daytime heat. The ceiling is low and the window is only on one side. The two panes only open about two inches each meaning the room is vey stuffy and it’s impossible to get decent ventilation. A fan is provided, but who wants one of those running all night? Result is that in warm weather it is far too hot and this room desperately needs aircon. To make matters worse, the blind does not make the room anywhere light tight. In the early morning summer sun I could easily have read a book even with the blind right down. It then tended to move around as what little air movement passed it causing a flickering bright light around the room. Overall, I slept very badly and fitfully even though I normally I sleep very well in hotel rooms. The room is also a long route march from reception and requires descending one flight of stairs and climbing two others to get to it. Anyone with mobility issues should not touch this room with a barge pole. Finally, the toilet is some quirky modern design where the toilet seat is weighted so it won’t stay up. It is also ridiculously small, the sort that people normally use if they put one in a closet and have no choice. The bathroom is big and other hotels manage to provide a decent toilet so this one should be ripped out and replaced with a proper sized, normal toilet. My advice to the management is to take this room out of service because, frankly, it is a very poor offering to guests unless they take remedial action on the above.
