Macdonald Swan (I)

Absolutely amazing hotel Nelly the manager is so friendly nothing is too much trouble. My husband and I came here last year and again this year can’t fault it.

£210, including compulsory £15 charge for my tiny little Maltese. Full parking on arrival and the following problems with the room: biscuits broken into crumbs, rubbish on carpet, no WIFI in room working, broken lamp bulb in one light, dead flies in main lampshade, no hot chocolate and last but not least, electrocuting myself on the “push to use” hairdryer. The pictures don’t reconcile with the reality and this room and facilities were massively over charged. I wouldn’t want to pay any than £60 for this, let alone £210 (£195 excluding dog). Latterly, the room boasts “completely toiletries”, which were bolted to the wall. There were also signs all over the place threatening charges (e.g. car parking and smoking infringements). It set a really poor tone, especially given my experience. The one positive was the friendly, approachable approach from the chap in the desk, who came up to try and address my concerns. Wouldn’t stay here again though and definitely wouldn’t recommend it for that price. Glad I just had one night.

Visited the Swan Inn at Grasmere a couple of times in June for drinks and meal in beautiful beer garden. Arrived on a hot day so went directly to the beer garden. No mention of parking monitoring and no availability to register vehicle as only in the bar to order and pay. Subseqently received PCNs ftom Smart Parking, Swan Inn no help. What an atrocious way to treat paying customers.
