Borrowdale Gates Hotel

Perfect hotel to get away from it all. Peaceful location and wonderful food. We enjoyed our 5th stay so much we are returning twice next year for my 70th birthday and to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary

We’ve just returned from our 6th visit to Borrowdale Gates where we had an excellent weekend. It was our first visit since the change of ownership & management. We were slightly apprehensive - would things still be as good? We needn’t have worried. The standard is still just as high. There was a warm welcome from Carol & our room (Ashness) was large & comfortable. Although the restaurant was very busy, the staff were on top of things and the food is top quality. We’ll be back next year.

A lovely hotel in a beautiful, secluded location. The only way to get there is by car or walking. We arrived by taxi from Penrith station - about a 30 minute drive. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room on the 2nd floor was large with a balcony overlooking the countryside, woods, grazing sheep and beautiful mountains. We went for a walk in the afternoon to a nearby village. A picture postcard perfect area with stone walls, wildflowers and stone bridges over gushing streams. Everything in the hotel worked well, including the Wi-Fi and hot water. The included breakfast was sumptuous and the dinner was excellent. We both had the sea bass and it was delicious. There are many walks and hikes in the area and we hiked to Keswick the next morning, climbing over Catsbell peak (not for the faint of heart or unsteady gait). Highly recommend for a quiet getaway.
