The George Hotel

Lovely pub with very friendly staff. The Orton Scar ale was delicious and was only 3.4% (like going back in time). Had food one night, the Doner and Kofta kebab was very authentic and was a good sized meal and the Caesar Salad was very nice and also a big plateful. Would recommend with no hesitation and hope to return ourselves one day.

Stayed here on my coast to coast walk. Long day walking from Haweswater to Orton. Walked into the pub in the hope I could camp in their beer garden and received the best welcome I’ve ever had in a pub! Spoke to the manager and asked if they still allow coast to coast camping in the beer garden. His reply was literally “Yes of course. Now get that pack off and what do you want to drink?” Staying here was one of the highlights of my adventure. Had a great nights sleep! Free WiFi so after days wild camping I could catch up with friends and family and the food is first class. The George is such a friendly local village pub with a great atmosphere. If you’re planning your coast to coast, this is a definite place to stay! There’s not much other accommodation in the area so this was perfect! Thank you for an unforgettable welcome!!

Great pub to enjoy Easter roast dinner with the family, lovely food, great staff and cozy atmosphere.
